Surplus provides flexible and smart tools when it comes to categorizing your transactions.
By default, Surplus attempts to categorize transactions based on the three main : "Needs", "Wants" and "Savings", selecting the default bucket for each category that is set under "Sync Settings"
As you customize the app and start to add buckets that fit your spending habits, Surplus will keep track of your adjustments and create automation rules.
In the example above, adjusting the transaction's bucket to "Eating Out" while keeping the "Apply changes to current and future transactions from relevant merchant(s)" option selected will trigger the app to look back at previous transactions that match it's name (i.e "Shake Shack") and move them into the "Eating Out" category. Surplus will also create an automation rule that will automatically categorize any newly synced transactions with the name "Shake Shack" to the "Eating out Category"
You can view and manage all automation rules via the "Settings" tab and clicking on the "Automation" setting item.
